Senator Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera) represents California's 30th Senate District, encompassing communities across southeastern Los Angeles County and a portion of Orange County [1,2]. A U.S. Army veteran who served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, former Pico Rivera mayor, and Presidential Appointee to the West Point Board of Visitors, Archuleta brings a life shaped by faith, family, and service to his legislative work [2,3]. While his voting record on social issues diverges from CFC priorities, his deep commitment to military families, his personal story of overcoming adversity through the support of a loving grandmother and the church, and his strong family values -- including raising five children with his wife Rose, two of whom graduated from West Point -- offer genuine points of connection with the CFC mission of strengthening families and honoring sacrificial service [3,4]. With a 15% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating, Archuleta's voting record has consistently placed him at considerable distance from the California Family Council's worldview framework on the sanctity of life (Chapter 6), parental authority in education (Chapter 8), and religious liberty (Chapter 9).
Bobby Jerry Archuleta was born on June 1, 1945, and grew up in the working-class neighborhood of Lincoln Heights in Los Angeles, near Chinatown. His early life was marked by hardship: abandoned by his biological mother, he was raised by his grandmother, who provided him with love and a strong foundation in the church. When his grandmother passed away when he was just ten years old, Archuleta was returned to his mother's custody, a difficult transition that led him to run away several times. As a boy, he sold flowers on the corner and took on odd jobs to help his family make ends meet.
After graduating from Salesian in 1963, during the height of the Vietnam War when many young men sought to avoid military service, Archuleta enlisted in the United States Army and volunteered to serve as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He served approximately three years on active duty and nearly two more years in the reserves. Following his military service, Archuleta attended the Rio Hondo College Police Academy and subsequently worked as a reserve police officer for the Montebello Police Department. His military background would become the defining thread of his public career and personal identity, as two of his five children -- sons who graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point -- followed their father into military service, continuing a proud family legacy (Ballotpedia; Wikipedia; sd30.senate.ca.gov).
His 15% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating reflects consistent divergence from the California Family Council's worldview framework. His voting record has supported abortion access expansion over the sanctity of life, government-directed education over parental authority, and progressive social mandates over religious liberty protections.
