Assemblymember Laurie Davies is a Republican representing California's 74th Assembly District, encompassing southern Orange County and northern San Diego County communities including Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Oceanside, and Vista [1,2]. A former small business owner and Mayor of Laguna Niguel, Davies has emerged as a champion of parental rights, public safety, human trafficking awareness, and protecting children -- priorities that closely align with the California Family Council's mission to strengthen families, defend religious liberty, and safeguard the well-being of children [3,4,5]. With a 62% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating, Davies has demonstrated alignment with the California Family Council's worldview framework on several core priorities including limited government (Chapter 11) and family-centered policy (Chapter 3).
Laurie Davies was born and raised in Wisconsin alongside three brothers and one sister. After graduating from high school, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach. Davies built a career in the hospitality industry as a restaurant manager before founding her own successful wedding and event planning company, Five Star Weddings & Events, in Orange County [1,2,3].
Davies entered public service when she was elected to the Laguna Niguel City Council in 2012. She was appointed Mayor in 2015 and re-elected in 2016, also serving as Mayor in 2016 and 2020. During her tenure, she served on the Transportation Corridor Agency, chaired the League of California Cities Committee on Transportation, was elected to the Orange County Transportation Authority, and served as President of the Association of California Cities -- Orange County [1,3,6].
In 2020, Davies was elected to the California State Assembly representing the 73rd District. Following redistricting, she was re-elected in 2022 representing the new 74th Assembly District and again in 2024 in a closely contested race, earning 50.8% of the vote against Democrat Chris Duncan in a swing district with nearly equal party registration [1,4,7].
Her 72.1% Biblical Values Scorecard rating across 104 scored floor votes demonstrates strong alignment with CFC's worldview framework, reflecting consistent support for the sanctity of human life, parental authority in education, and religious liberty protections.
From the perspective of CFC's mission, Davies has been a strong advocate on parental rights. She introduced AB 1785, the California Parents' Bill of Rights Act, modeled after Florida's 2021 Parents' Bill of Rights, which would require schools to post information about immunization requirements, curriculum, and how to opt out of sex education. At the bill's press conference, Davies declared it is the right of every parent to make health care decisions for their children rather than Sacramento politicians [5,9].
