Tim Grayson is a Democratic member of the California State Senate representing District 9, which encompasses portions of Contra Costa and Alameda counties in the East Bay [1,2]. A former small business owner, construction contractor, police chaplain, and co-founder of the Contra Costa Family Justice Center, Grayson was first elected to the State Assembly in 2016 after serving on the Concord City Council and as Mayor of Concord [1,3]. He won election to the Senate in November 2024, defeating fellow Democrat Marisol Rubio with 52% of the vote [2,4]. With a 17% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating, Grayson's voting record has consistently placed him at considerable distance from the California Family Council's worldview framework on the sanctity of life (Chapter 6), parental authority in education (Chapter 8), and religious liberty (Chapter 9).
Tim Grayson (born September 17, 1967) grew up in a working-class family in California's East Bay. His father was a Teamster and his mother worked in public transit, and Grayson became the first member of his family to earn a college degree [1,3]. After completing his education, he built a career as a licensed general building contractor, a license he has held since 1997, operating his own small business for nearly three decades [1,5]. A longtime Concord resident, Grayson has been married to his wife Tammy for over 35 years, and together they raised two children, Joe and Cassie, in the East Bay community [3,6].
Grayson's public service began well before his political career. In 2007, he became the Critical Response Chaplain for the Concord Police Department, a volunteer role he continues to hold, providing emotional support and counseling to first responders, victims, and their families during traumatic events [1,3]. He is also a pastor of LifePoint Church (formerly Calvary Apostolic Church) in Concord [7]. His deep community ties led him to co-found the Contra Costa Family Justice Center, a one-stop resource center for victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and child and elder abuse [1,3]. He was recognized with Presidential Citizens Awards in both 2008 and 2009 for his community service efforts, and he is a member of the Citizen Corps Community Emergency Response Team and the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce [6].
On the issues central to the California Family Council's mission, Grayson's voting record has consistently diverged from CFC's worldview framework. His 17% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating reflects a pattern of voting that has supported abortion access expansion over the sanctity of life, government-directed education over parental authority, and progressive social mandates over religious liberty protections.
