Senator Megan Dahle (R-Bieber) is a family farmer, small-business owner, and lifelong rural Northern Californian who has championed parental rights, school choice, pro-life protections, and the needs of rural families throughout her legislative career [1,2]. First elected to the State Assembly in a 2019 special election and now serving in the State Senate representing District 1, Dahle brings a deeply rooted commitment to faith, family, and community that closely aligns with CFC's mission to strengthen families and protect children [3,4]. With a 83% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating, Dahle has been one of the Legislature's most consistent champions of the values the California Family Council defends — the sanctity of life (Chapter 6), parental authority in education (Chapter 8), religious liberty (Chapter 9), and limited, family-centered governance (Chapter 11).
Megan Marie Dahle (nee Ray) was born on July 29, 1975, and is a lifelong resident of rural Northern California. She attended Shasta College in Redding [2,5]. Together with her husband, former State Senator Brian Dahle, she owns and operates a dry land wheat farm and seed business in Bieber, Lassen County. The couple married in 1999 and have three children [1,3,6].
Before entering the Legislature, Dahle served on the Big Valley Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees, including a term as board president [1,3]. Her path to the Legislature began in 2019 when her husband Brian won a special election for the State Senate, vacating his Assembly seat. Megan won the subsequent special election for Assembly District 1. She was re-elected in 2020 and 2022 before winning election to State Senate District 1 in November 2024 [2,4]. Her district encompasses 14 counties in Northern California including Butte, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama [1,2].
From a CFC perspective, Senator Dahle has demonstrated strong alignment with family values and pro-life principles. She voted No on SCA 10, which became Proposition 1 (2022), codifying unrestricted abortion access in the California Constitution, and was a named opponent of the measure [7,8]. On education, Dahle has advocated for parental rights and school choice, opposing AB 84 (2025) as a threat to homeschool and hybrid education families [9,10]. She co-authored Senate Bill 669, signed by Governor Newsom, creating a pilot program for maternity care through rural hospital-birthing center partnerships to address the maternity care desert crisis across Northern California [11,12].
Her 82.7% Biblical Values Scorecard rating across 101 scored floor votes demonstrates strong alignment with CFC's worldview framework, reflecting consistent support for the sanctity of human life, parental authority in education, and religious liberty protections.
In December 2023, Dahle suffered an ischemic stroke during hospitalization for heart complications. After intensive rehabilitation, she returned to the Assembly chamber in June 2024 and won her Senate race that November [13,14]. She serves on the Senate Appropriations, Education, Emergency Management, and Energy, Utilities and Communications committees [15].
