Lori D. Wilson is a Democratic member of the California State Assembly representing District 11, encompassing Solano County and portions of Contra Costa and Sacramento Counties. [1] First elected in a 2022 special election, Wilson previously served as Mayor of Suisun City — the first Black woman to hold a mayoral office in Solano County. [2,3] She chairs the Assembly Transportation Committee. [4] With a 15% CFC Biblical Values Scorecard rating, Wilson is best known to the California Family Council as the author of AB 957, which would have weaponized family courts against parents who decline to affirm a child's claimed gender identity — a direct assault on parental authority (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) and the biblical truth that God created human beings male and female (Genesis 1:27). Governor Newsom vetoed the bill after sustained opposition from CFC and allied organizations. [14,15]
Wilson was born on July 17, 1976, and raised in Fresno. [5] She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento in 2002. [1] Before politics, she spent over twenty years in accounting and finance, including roles at Fair Housing Napa Valley, Solano County, and KB Homes. [3,5] She was elected to the Suisun City Council in 2012, served as Vice-Mayor, and became Mayor in 2018. [3] She won the April 2022 special election for the Assembly seat and has been re-elected twice. [1,2] She identifies as Christian. [1]
Wilson's most significant legislation from CFC's perspective is AB 957, the Transgender, Gender-Diverse, and Intersex Youth Empowerment Act, co-authored with Senator Scott Wiener. [12] The bill would have required courts to consider a parent's affirmation of a child's gender identity when making custody determinations [12] — meaning, in practice, that a parent who holds to the biblical understanding that sex is an immutable biological reality could lose custody to a parent who affirms gender transition. CFC condemned the measure as one that would "take children from parents who don't affirm a kid's gender identity," [14] and it represented precisely the kind of government overreach into family authority that CFC's worldview framework warns against. The bill passed both chambers on party-line votes but was vetoed by Governor Newsom, who cautioned against singling out one characteristic for judicial standards. [12,13]
Her 12.5% Biblical Values Scorecard rating across 104 scored floor votes reflects consistent divergence from CFC's worldview framework. Her voting record has supported abortion access expansion over the sanctity of human life, government-directed education over parental authority and school choice, and progressive social mandates over religious liberty protections.
Wilson is the first California legislator to publicly discuss being the parent of a transgender child, and she has indicated she will continue advocating for gender identity legislation. [5,12] Her broader legislative record — supporting abortion access expansion, LGBTQ policy mandates, and expanded government social programs — has consistently placed her in opposition to CFC's framework on the sanctity of life, God's design for marriage and family, and the principle that government should protect rather than supplant parental authority. She is married to Chavares Wilson, a retired Air Force veteran, and they have two sons. [5,6]
