AB 2242 — Pastor Talking Points
Pupil Safety: Sextortion Informational Poster
For use in sermons, Bible studies, or small group discussions
Pastoral Opening
As shepherds of our congregations, we are called to protect the vulnerable and speak truth about the dangers our children face. Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us to "open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute… defend the rights of the poor and needy" — and today, our children need us to be informed and present.
What This Bill Does
AB 2242 would require California middle and high schools to post informational material warning students about sextortion — a growing form of online predation where young people are manipulated or threatened into sharing explicit images.

Discussion Question
For small groups: "What does it look like for our family — or our church — to be a safe place where children can bring their fears, mistakes, or experiences online without shame?"
A Gentle Call to Action
Stay informed about what your child's school is posting and teaching. Visit californiafamily.org to learn more about bills affecting California's children and families. And if God leads you, contact your state assemblymember to let them know you are a parent who is paying attention.
