God calls His people to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves (Proverbs 31:8-9). This bill raises a serious question for every person of faith: should the state be allowed to hide from accountability the medical procedures being performed on our children?
What This Bill Does — In Plain Terms
●
California is considering a law that would prevent investigators — including federal authorities — from accessing medical records related to abortion and so-called "gender transition" procedures performed here in our state.
●
In effect, it creates a legal wall around these procedures, shielding them from outside scrutiny or accountability.
●
If a family in another state is trying to find out what happened to their child medically, California would make it extremely difficult to get answers.
●
This bill treats the performance of sterilizing hormone therapies and surgeries on minors as something so sacred it must be protected from any outside investigation — even legitimate legal ones.
●
God's Word reminds us that "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper" (Proverbs 28:13). Laws designed to hide medical information from lawful inquiry raise serious moral questions about what is being protected — and why.
●
Scripture calls governing authorities to be "a terror to bad conduct" and a servant of justice (Romans 13:3-4). When government instead shields certain medical procedures from any accountability, something has gone deeply wrong.
How to Pray
●
For the children: Pray that every child in California would be protected from irreversible medical harm, and that God would raise up voices in Sacramento willing to stand for their wellbeing.
●
For lawmakers: Pray that God would grant wisdom and courage to legislators who know this bill is wrong, and that His grace would soften the hearts of those who have championed it.
●
For families: Pray especially for parents who feel powerless as the state moves to limit their authority and shield these procedures from accountability.
●
For our church: Pray that we would not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9), and that we would be faithful to speak the truth in love on behalf of the vulnerable.
Discussion Question for Small Groups
Read Proverbs 31:8-9 together. What does it look like for the church — not just individual Christians — to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves" in our cultural moment? What is one practical step our group could take?
