Pastor Talking Points: AB 1730
Community Colleges & Civil Rights Compliance
For Use in Sermons, Bible Studies, or Small Group Discussion
God has entrusted parents and families with the formation of the next generation — and the church has a responsibility to speak up when government systems are designed to undermine that trust. AB 1730 is a bill moving through the California legislature that deserves our prayerful attention.
What This Bill Does — Key Points:
●
AB 1730 would create a single, statewide bureaucracy to oversee all civil rights and discrimination complaints across all 116 California community colleges — affecting hundreds of thousands of students, many of them our own young people.
●
This outside organization would have the power to write mandatory training for every campus that promotes gender ideology and a worldview rooted in "intersectionality" — not neutral fairness, but a specific ideological framework that often conflicts with biblical truth.
●
Any college that refuses to comply could be fined $1,000 per day, taken directly from state funding — meaning financial pressure is used to force ideological conformity.
●
There is no competitive bidding required for this contract, meaning one organization, chosen without transparency, would shape how every community college in California handles these sensitive matters.
●
Students and employees — including Christian students and campus ministers — who hold biblical views on gender and sexuality could face complaints handled by an ideologically driven process with no meaningful safeguards.
●
Proverbs 31:8-9 calls us to "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously." This bill demands a response from those who love truth.
Scripture to Hold Onto:
●
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." — Proverbs 22:6
●
"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." — Ephesians 6:4
●
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." — Genesis 1:27
How to Pray:
●
Pray for young people in California's community colleges — that they would be rooted in God's Word and not swept away by ideological pressure.
●
Pray for legislators who will vote on this bill — that God would give them wisdom and the courage to protect students rather than indoctrinate them.
●
Pray for Christian students and campus ministry leaders who may face real consequences for holding biblical convictions.
●
Pray for CFC and other advocates standing in the gap in Sacramento on behalf of California families.
Discussion Question for Small Groups:
When the government uses financial pressure to require schools to teach a particular worldview, how should the church respond — and what does faithfulness look like for parents, students, and church leaders in that moment?
A Gentle Call to Action:
If you have children or grandchildren attending a California community college, or if you care about the next generation's freedom to hold and express biblical convictions, we encourage you to contact your state assemblymember and let them know you are watching this bill. You can find your representative and learn more at californiafamily.org. Your voice matters — and so does your vote.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." — Galatians 6:9
